What Is AMP and What Does It Mean for the Future?
AMP – or Accelerated Mobile Pages – is a project backed by Google that aims to make the loading of mobile web pages much faster.
According to Google, 40% of people abandon a website that takes more than 3 seconds to load. This demonstrates that users expect websites to load almost instantaneously. Essentially, AMP pages work by using a lighter version of HTML that allows websites to load much faster than regular HTML.
Google have stated that all sites that create AMP pages will have expanded exposure across the entire Google Mobile Search results. If so then AMP is something everyone with a website needs to seriously consider. Over 50% of all Google searches are now made on mobile, and if Google will give priority to websites that use AMP, it could make a huge difference in terms of traffic to your website.
AMP versions of web pages will be labelled with an AMP tag attached to the result. You can view a demo of AMP within Google’s search results by clicking here (if you’re reading this on a mobile device).
